On a cold October night in 2011, several undergrads decided to start a new wave of Acapella, dedicating their voices to create one of the newest, freshest, diverse-est, and most adventurous musical group on campus. That night, Pitches & Tones was born. Since then, we’ve embraced a shared love for all music, singing anything from pop-hits, musical melodies, movie soundtracks, traditional ballads, to member-made originals: it's Acapella with no boundaries.

We take pride in our entirely member-arranged repertoire, and we encourage each and every member to delve into their musicality and arrange any songs of their liking- whether that is a beloved classic, a niche tune, a beatboxing solo, a complete original, or any mashup, medley, or remix. We chase new musicality, and we push the boundaries of Acapella. Our rehearsals and concerts are never boring or routine- we like to keep things fresh.

Because we believe music is for everyone, we keep all of our performances free to attend and support the group on a donation-based system (don't worry- costs for all member activities are covered!). We sing at many events for non-profit organizations because we believe music is magic and is a powerful tool to better the world. Every week with Pitches & Tones is an adventure; we perform routine gigs on campus, locally, and all across the US. We host our Winter and Spring Jams on campus, and beyond New Haven, we’ve toured across the U.S. including Nashville, Washington D.C., and Boston.

We are an incredibly diverse group, with our members coming from all over the world with all different kinds of musical backgrounds and abilities- from first-time shower singers to seasoned professionals, beatboxing champions to violin maestros. We believe any musical ability- not just your voice- should be welcomed, can be engaged in, and should be further developed.

While musicality is our tune, we’re a community first and foremost: WE LOVE OUR PITCHES!! Catch us outside of rehearsal, studying, cooking (or burning stuff...), and vibing together. We're an incredibly tightknit group; every one of our Pitches are cherished... and you could be our next Pitchling!
