The New Blue of Yale

SSAA

The New Blue was founded in 1969, the same year that Yale University first admitted undergraduate women – making us not only Yale's first women's a cappella group, but its oldest women's organization of any kind. “Old Blue” was out, New Blue was in. Our archives are full of beautiful and empowering moments from those pivotal years, and we continue to proudly and excitedly contribute to our group’s rich history.

Since 2020, we've been honored to sing with women and non-binary folks of note. We sing soprano-alto songs that are arranged by our own members — everything from haunting folk music, to jazz and blues, to today’s pop radio hits. We hail from a rich musical history dating back 50 years, and we hope to always stand (and sing!) as a proud, living symbol of change at Yale.
